Photos that Scream “China”
Every so often I snap a picture which just screams “China.” Here’s one of them I found when cleaning out my camera. Feel free to write your own captions.

That’s definitely China, from the pony tail to the dresses to the motor-bikes along the street. The advertisement boards next to the street, the umbrellas, the sidewalk, and even the car parked on the sidewalk ahead! I saw two girls using this method to carry a dog through the subway one time in Beijing.

@Jeremy
Good call…that pic was definitely taken in Fuzhou. The south side of 东街 to be exact.

Oh, and I’m glad that you like Beyond. 光辉岁月 is my high school glory song. Though they may be defunct, they are alive and well in the form of KTV.

That’s culture difference too. In China, most ladies usually put up umbrellas in sunny days to avoid suntan.

Not knowing the history of umbrellas before, I was quite surprised that the Chinese actually had two different words for umbrella: 雨伞 (rain umbrella) and 阳伞 (sun umbrella/parasol).
Still, two people carrying one bag, definitely more efficient, but certainly unique to me.

Great pic! It’s been a while since I roamed the streets of China. Coming upon a good photo like this every now and then brings back the memories.
Thanx!

Ben, you probably know this, but
your website is blocked in China now. I’m
using a proxy.

I used to live there, and I hated those damn railings (seen on the left) that kept you from walking on the streets. I loved having to watch out and make sure I wasn’t run over by some errant taxi driving ex-truck driver! Kept one on one’s toes! Also those crappy uneven cement sidewalk blocks (on right). Great way to sprain an ankle! Otherwise great view straight ahead!
