I read Jung Chang's Mao biography afterwards, and that may be the right order. Then I understood to read the Mao book with a grain of salt. No doubt that her sources are listed and correct, but somehow I was left with a feeling that she lets her hate shine through at times. Still a very cool, well-written and recommendable book though. Just because of less fortunate people existing out there doesn’t mean you are not entitled to vent and let out the frustration and violation you must be feeling. I always got “feel up” on buses in China and even developed a whole avoidance, revenge technique, it still happens to me. Each time, I cursed the guy, cursed the whole male species and resigned to “it is not because I am not careful, there are just perps out there”. Curse the whole Chinese population if it will make you feel better:). Oh, just to be fair to my fellow Chinese, the "feel up" thing happened to me in US too.
