As I mentioned previously, the little brothers and sisters all take turns as guinea pigs for the latest funky hairstyles. All along it has been my intention to fit in with my coworkers as much as possible, and if that means if my hair has to take one for the team, then so be it. Yesterday was my big day, and blonde highlights had been the pre-determined verdict. Originally I just wanted them in the front, but my coworkers were able to convince me it would be better to do my whole head. Like my initial haircut, the dying/sculpting process was also done by committee, with Jie Lun spearheading the dying and Xiao Xie (one of the higher ranking little sisters) doing the styling work. Here’s the evidence.

| The highlighting process begins by covering my head in plastic wrap and poking holes for the hair to come through. This process may be familiar to you if you have gotten highlights before, but for me it was a first. |

The dye is applied.

| After the dye was applied, I had to have my head circled for 20 minutes by this revolving heat lamp which resembled a flying saucer. |
 |
| Afterwords, Xiao Xie helps sculpt my hair into the latest hip hairstyle. |

Voila!

Nice! It turned out pretty well…I was imagining much worse since you were talking about orange and purple last week. Sounds like you could reinvent yourself every week if you really wanted to!

Hehe.
Working at the barbershop do a lot of people come in just to get their roots permed? A friend told me that a lot of men and women do this so that their hair will have more volume. Which I, of course, had no idea you could do.
The end result looks pretty good. I have to say that I am surprised by the positive results I have had despite not knowing how to say things like “layered” or whatever.

Jenn-
I haven’t heard of anybody just getting their roots permed, but I’ll ask. We do do a lot of regular perms though. One of the most common ones doesn’t actually make the hair curly, but makes it more wavy and voluptous, (see Xiao Xie’s hair in the pics above) which I guess is along the lines of giving it volume. All this hair stuff is still pretty new to me.
